thanks all, this is very useful. One thing, when the sent items appear in the new sent items folder, they all show as unread items. any way of changing this so they are all automatically marked as read?

Andrew, just click on the new folder. Then move your cursor anywhere on the gray title bar (that shows the subject, date/time, etc.) and RIGHT-click your mouse and select Customize Current View. Then select Fields and you can select which fields are displayed. Remove the “From” field and replace with “To”.

Is there a way of showing the messages in this new folder by who you sent it to (like the original sent messages folder), rather than who it was sent from

I actually stopped using Outlook for a long time because I couldn’t find an answer to this. The people on the usual help forums are well intentioned I guess but the information is shoot from the hip and frequently wrong. I just started searching again after my webmail just became too limited. It always was, but I ran out of tolerance. Thank you.

Thanks for the information. The information that you share moves only mails from Inbox or specific folders but I want to know how to move a message from Sent Items with specific condition to a different folder.

When working offline and send emails using the rules, you get an error message on the rule and then the rule gets turned off. So when you go back online, the rule is off and the sent emails do not go to the folders that you specified in the rules. How to get around this?

Mike, instructions on how to NOT have a copy in the local Sent folder is in the opening paragraph.

“If you do not want to keep a saved copy locally, go to Tools>Options. On the Preferences tab, click e-mail options and clear the “Save copies of messages in sent items folder”.”

If you want to have separate sent folders for different email accounts – just create different sent IMAP folders for each one and create different rules for each account you have – defining a different IMAP folder for each one.

Can any help me with my problem – if I try to send an email when I don’t have internet connection the rule is broken and Outlook turns the rule off!

Works but also leaves a copy on the sent folder. I have multiple accounts for me work and personal e-mail. I don’t want them all going into one folder. Tried the above instructions, it moves a copy of sent work e-mails to the specified Work Sent Items folder but still leaves a copy in the regular sent items folder. Is there anyway to just have one copy that goes into the specified folder only?
